Giovanni Hieber 7-Course Lute

The Giovanni Hieber lute in the Musical Instrument Museum in Brussels, Belgium (Brussels No.1561), has been copied many times during the revival of lute making. Since this is one of the few surviving seven course instruments in a 59cm string length, it makes a perfect instrument for modern performance for tenor “g” at the a-440 pitch without having to scale or adjust the model. This Venetian-style instrument c. 1580 is plain but well designed and makes a great instrument for both beginners and experienced musicians.
